i've been meaning to do this for a while and finally thought about it when i had a minute this morning. we've thought that we could for sure fit the three kids in the back of our sedan with all the car seats. now i'm not so sure. and really, if they all fit, is it okay? even if you haven't gone through this, i'd love to hear thoughts about it.

At least yours fit. We had Amanda in the middle, sans carseat because it wouldn't fit, until we were generously given Nate's family's hand-me-down minivan.
If you can fit them, I'd do it. Good luck!
I also say if you can fit them then do it! My cousin adopted triplet boys and didn't have a choice. She would shut one door then go around the other side and with her hips shut the other door. They were nice and tight! They are 9 yrs old now and they are still alive! :) It doesn't look unsafe to me---those people at the gov agencies are SCARY so maybe don't ask them...they had Ally STRAPPED in TIGHT when we brought her home from the hospital. She's NEVER been that tight again! You don't have a counter on your blog---when are you due again?
I don't know if you remember our black accord (a few cars ago) but we bought it from people who had a similar setup in their back. Hey, if it works, might as well do it!
i don't know anything about the legalities. if it works, go for it.
i just feel sorry for the monkey in the middle.
Wow. That looks crazy. That is really a great picture. It says is all! :) I think it's smart to have the easy "click-n-go" infant carrier in the middle. That will be a life saver! I hope you never have to go anywhere alone and have 3 kids to buckle up! :) You go!
laura, that's so nice, but i am fully expecting to be going many places on my own with all three kids!
Hahaha!! Yep, I've seen this picture before...it's in the back seat of my Expedition! But, I'd say if it fits, I can't imagine that's it's not legal...you go girl! Power mom!
wow. I agree with all before me. If they all fit, go for it. There's a family in our ward who has been doing it for the last 6 1/2 months.
That is the moment I am expecting Jennifer to snap and go, "Okay, we'll get a van!" Because right now I think the plan is to avoid it through kid number 4 (I'll probably drive behind in my own car to make room for everyone). I see a van as back preservation investment! Hope it is in the foreseeable future or that this works well!
I have carpooled many times and thought that would work too...but then I talked to one of my friends that did it and within a couple weeks one of the car seats cracked! so good luck on the decision.
We drive an accord, and we are able to fit all three back there as long as the oldest was in the middle. She can buckle up all by herself, so I only have to reach in so far on either side. We found two car seat models that looked slimmer, which is the only it will work. My recommendation: get a minivan. If that's not a possibility (as is the case for us right now), then hunt for skinnier car seats, and have a lot of patience with all the buckling. Good luck!
Oh, one more thing: We've been doing this since we had our third baby, and she's 19 months old now. When she graduated from infant carrier to front-facing seat, there was more space back there. If I could handle this (going all over the place sans husband), Faith you can handle it, too!
Hmm, I've seen people do it AND I've seen people get a mini van to avoid it.
Ha ha, back in the day when I was a kid my parents were moving right after the 4th child was born and couldn't get a mini van until the infant was 3-4 months old. None of the older kids were in car seats anymore. So we had one kid on one side of the car seat and then the two other kids had to share a seat belt on the other side of the car seat! That one probably fell under the illegal category.
