one year older

we are alive and doing a little backtracking...

andy's first birthday was 7 feb. i don't like to have big birthday celebrations for little kids. i think it sets the standard a little too high - especially for something they can't remember. it may look like it, but i'm actually not opposed to birthday parties in general. i'm just not torn up about it if they don't happen. for us, they just have not happened.

benny turned one the day spencer's youngest brother left to serve a mission in brazil. also, that day i had food poisoning. that night benny ate green beans in his high chair and shared some of spencer's ice cream. we did enjoy some cake and small celebrations with each of our families.

on benny's second birthday, we were a couple of weeks away from our move to oklahoma. again, we enjoyed small celebrations with family. i even made a byu t-shirt cake! (thanks to lilly ann for use of her fun cake pan.)

we've usually had a few gifts for benny, but they usually end up trickling out over the course of a few weeks around his birthday. it's worked.

this year, for andy's birthday, we actually did have a little celebration with two of our good friends, steve and lynsie. we all enjoyed some cake and ice cream together. andy (and benny) enjoyed presents fromt he grandparents and i kept forgetting to get our gifts for him out of the closet.
the presents we had for him were actually left over from last christmas. the boys were so happy with what they had gotten that we ended up with two presents left under the tree that i did not feel the need to force upon them. we snuck them into the closet intending to bring them out for andy's birthday. that didn't happen. we now have presents for benny's birthday in july! assuming i remember to bring them with us to utah - where we are going the day before benny's birthday.

we had a fun evening visiting and watching the boys enjoy their cake and ice cream. andy ate all of his like a champ.

first we all enjoyed a nice spaghetti dinner.

the tired birthday boy waiting for cake.
(it was a sunday and with church at 1p, andy usually doesn't get a nap)

spencer made and decorated the cake.
it says, "happy b-day andy pants" (our nickname for andy)

steve and lynsie with the boys.

a tired boy who has enjoyed his cake!

Very funny, but a sad commentary

Thanks Bethany

the worst job in the world...

...according to my checker at wal-mart the other day, is her job. she said everyone should praise them for what they go through. i said i sometimes felt the same way about my job (about the praise, not about it being the worst job). i told her i have a two-and-a-half-year-old, a one-year-old, and one on the way. her response: "do you watch a lot of tv?"

is that really what people think about mothers who stay at home? maybe that's what i'd do if i wanted my children to end up working at wal-mart.
