baby update

well, as i'm sure you can tell, the baby is still not here. honestly, we were a little disappointed at our 37 week appointment last friday when the doctor did not tell us we were going to have a baby that day (i think benny really spoiled me). i was dilated to a 1 and 75% effaced. at least things were moving along at all...

today i had another appointment and things were about the same. all i know is that God has a plan for when this little guy is going to make his first appearance and all we can do is wait (theoretically, because i can't be induced, it could take until 20 feb...).

i'm still doing my best to keep up the walking - i get my 2 miles most days of the week. right now i'm fighting a cold, sore throat, congestion, and normal pregnancy awkwardness, so i might take a day or two off to let my body regenerate, but i'm hoping to get back into things fairly quickly.

med school update

well, here it is! last tuesday spencer got the call we have been waiting for. he has been accepted to oklahoma state's medical school. we are really excited to be heading to tulsa at the end of july.
the first thing we did was head to the tie store in the mall to get spencer an osu orange tie. it looked great on sunday! we're really excited that things are working out so well for us. we feel really blessed to have gotten into our first choice - how many can say that? i'm not sure why things seem to be going so much our way, but we're really excited to see what God has in store for us in tulsa, ok.

which jane austen character are you?

I am Marianne Dashwood!

Take the Quiz here!

having read each of jane austen's novels at least twice (some several times), i'm a little surprised by this result. i could actually tell most of the time to which character the answers were referring - i really think i answered honestly. if this quiz is accurate, i think i still have a lot of growing up to do. i think if i could pick, i'd be stuck between elinor dashwood and elizabeth bennet. i love persuasion, but anne elliot isn't as strong as she should be a lot of the time.

if you take the quiz, leave a comment with who you are. enjoy!

last first day...

we just had spencer's last first day at byu. this is a major event for us because it means we're that much closer to medical school starting. it's really exciting and nerve-racking too.

here's spencer's first day of school picture for this semester. i'm glad he likes having the pictures. unfortunately this is the second faked first day of school picture for spencer. last semester we forgot, so we took a picture of his second first day (tuesday classes were different from monday classes). this semester benny and i had an appointment to go to before spencer left for class, so i had him put his jacket and backpack on to stage it. we couldn't do a second first day because he doesn't really have one.

this semester is the best. spencer only has classes on mondays and wednesdays - and those aren't even completely crazy. tuesdays he's able to do some lab assisting that he really enjoys and there's really no work that needs to come home from those labs.

we're really grateful to finish up our time at byu like this. we're excited to be able to relax a little bit more and enjoy lots of free time together as a family and with our families before we leave for the midwest. what's really great is that we get to celebrate weekend-eve on tuesdays now! we had a great kick-off last night by going to the jazz game (thanks, again, dirk and lilly ann!) and staying the night in draper. and now spencer's done with classes already and ready to take it easy this weekend.

story time

i wish i had a picture to go along with this story; however, my first reaction was not for the camera but was, regrettably, to take the item from benny.

spencer and i had just gotten home (maybe from church) and we were changing our clothes. we walked into the living room just in time to see benny walking out of the kitchen with a chocolate in one hand, the tray of the remaining chocolates in his other hand, and a chocolate in his mouth. he walked out of the kitchen saying, "mmmm..." with a little smile on his face.

like i said, it is regrettable that i didn't get the camera instead of taking the chocolates away (it's a process, but i think that little by little i'm starting to lighten up - something my sister assures me will happen some day anyway), but i'm glad i have this cute story to tell about our son. it really was pretty funny. we usually try to keep the kitchen door closed (gratefully we have a door!), but sometimes we forget - especially because benny's getting a lot better about not getting into things he shouldn't. it has been nice, though, to barricade him into the living room where all his toys are. he is, however, getting closer and closer to being able to open doors. he can reach handles and he knows they need to be turned - he just doesn't have enough leverage yet. oh, what we have to look forward to.
