February Birthdays Catch-up: Anne

During the first week of Anne's life I told my mom that time goes too fast.  Her response: "Actually, it's probably just right."  While I agree that God knows what he's doing, I think I have a lot to change to make sure I'm using the time He gives me better.

Anne's first year seemed to fly by!  And now we're already almost three months past that.  Anne is a great addition to our family.  One of the things I really love about her is that she loves to enjoy herself.  This girl just loves to be happy.  We love her smiles and they are quick to the surface.  Although a little shy with strangers, if she is secure with Spencer or me, she with smile at most people.  She has had lots of disrupting fun with people who sit rows behind us at church!

Still not walking full-time, we're getting ready.  Just yesterday Anne made the decision that walking may be a better mode of transportation.  She's got a great crawl, though, that I just think she's a little hesitant to get rid of.  She has had what I call a "peg-leg" crawl: hands, left knee, and right foot.  Recently she's been doing a lot of bear crawling.  Getting more and more comfortable on those feet.  She's very active and we love seeing where she ends up.  She's following Lilia's footsteps in being more adventurous with climbing.  Anne loves to climb on chairs to sit and watch.  She seems to be quite coordinated and will climb down backwards.  We never did have to teach her that.

The birthday celebration was split into two parts.  With her birthday being on Sunday, dinner was a little later and Anne was already exhausted (Sundays mean no naps).  Spencer tried his hand at a "vegan" chocolate cake that just didn't take.  And unfortunately the frosting (that we both made) was also a no-go.  It sure looked cute, but we'll do better for when she can remember.  I also tried making "Raw Ice Cream" (mashed up frozen bananas) to go with the cake.  I quite liked it but it was way too cold for Anne.  We did presents Monday evening.

Anne's current nicknames:
Anne Cakes
Cupcake
Cupcake Pancake
Cup-y Cake-y
Cup-y Cake-y Pan-y Cake-y
Cake-y
Little Cakes
Little Bakey (sometimes Takey, Gakey, or whatever gibberish comes out of Lilia's mouth)

And the most recent: Anner the Tanner
"Like our cousin Tanner!" Benny told me today when he reminded me.

We just love our Little Bakey and are so glad she's in our family.

Dinner was Moroccan Couscous with chickpeas and peppers.  Delicious!
She was trying to smile while chewing

The infamous cake.

That's about how we all felt.

She managed to get Lilia's jamma shirt on and was thrilled!

Opening presents.

From last weekend.  This girl just loves to be happy.

From this morning.  We discovered yesterday that she can climb up on this big chair.  I love watching her maneuver herself up.

that first picture of her in her highchair with the birthday sign is adorable. i love the look on her face.

and for homemade ice cream substitutes, you could get a 'yonanas' like caitlin and rob gave mom and dad. i used it for the first time yesterday and loved it. the base is frozen bananas and you can mix in different frozen fruits or other things. so good!
